During this workshop the artist will learn how to merge acting and dance to successfully convey a story. Basic Structure and technique of Musical theatre dance will help the student build character. Warm up, technique, character development through dance, performance techniques and tips will be included.  This Workshop is Perfect for enthusiastic performers who are looking to expand and deepen their musical theatre technique. Beginner to advanced levels may apply - everyone will be challenged. 

WHAT IS INTRODUCTION TO MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE?

Musical theatre dance embodies different levels of dance. Whether the student’s interest is musical theatre, hip hop, lyric, tap or ballet, musical theatre dance embodies all dance discplens used on stage. The student is exposed to movement, acting techniques through dance including vocal projection found in a musical theatre production.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Jessica Dominicis has been performing and studying musical theatre all her life. She started as a competitive dancer at Performing Dance Arts, training in dance genres such as: jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, acro, contemporary, lyrical, and musical theatre. After a 10 year competitive dance career, she started studying voice, and began her BA degree in York University’s, Theatre Program. While completing her degree, she has taken on various musical theatre roles outside school, most recently performing as Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray. Along with performing, Jessica also has a passion for teaching and choreographing, her most recent choreography work being, Fame! Jr. She is excited for the chance to pass on all she has learned and her experience to beginner performers, while also challenging those with more experience.


UPCOMING WOrKSHOPS:

HIP HOP

Hip hop gives the student freedom of expression through movement. This is a high-energy popular class, offering fun choreography, rhythm and popular music. Classes are separated by age.
